The Student Prince Cafe

The Student Prince Cafe in Massachusetts was opened September 24, 1935 by Paul Schoeder and Erna Sievers. It was named after Sigmund Romberg's lighthearted operetta of Heidelberg student life, The Student Prince. Most of the woodwork in the bar area is original despite generations of "Gemutlichkeit". About twenty steins adorned the bar when it opened; this collection has grown to one of the largest in the United States.

In 1660 on this site, John Pynchon constructed a fort to defend the tiny settlement of Springfield. In October of 1675, the town was burned to the ground by the forces of King Phillip's Pocumtuck Indians. Only Pynchon's fort withstood the attack, finally falling to urban renewal in 1831.

In honor of this event, on February 18,1946 we opened The Fort dining room, highlighted by stained glass windows crafted by German artisans who had settled in New Jersey. The dining room had a separate entrance and name to encourage family trade.

Since 1935, we have served many celebrities, but more importantly, we have served many loyal local customers. We are not only known for our stein and art collections but also for our delicious food. We are proud of our staff who strive to make each meal a pleasant memory. The secret ingredient of our restaurant is LOVE. Call to book a table... 413-734-7475.

SWEARING, LYING, STEALING AND DRINKING
When you swear, swear by your country
When you lie, lie for a pretty woman
When you steal, steal away from bad company
And when you drink, drink with me!

Juniper House

Home is a feeling of belonging, of having a favorite chair, of knowing one's way around the kitchen, of looking out windows onto familiar landscapes. The value of a home is priceless—more than the cost of nails and wood and paint. Home holds the power to cheer our hearts and to soothe our souls.Whether you are someone looking to help your loved one to stay at home in spite of the challenges of illness and/or aging or you're a professional in search of quality services, please know that at Juniper House Homecare we understand your goals.

We can help as little or as much as you need by offering vital "Help Around the Home" services, ranging from companion services to heavy housekeeping to live-in assistance—all at the lowest rates allowed by the State. Our personnel are screened, insured, and bonded—but most of all, they are compassionate and committed to the health and well-being of each client. We go the extra mile to try to find a good "match" for each person we help. We often can even find someone who "speaks your language"; we have staff members who are fluent in Spanish, Polish, Russian, Yugoslavian, and Bosnian.

And to address your concerns that your loved one or client is eating well, we offer freshly-prepared meals from the renowned Elmwood Kitchen, delivered at the low cost of $9.00 for both lunch and dinner!

Leading state and regional agencies have recognized Juniper House Homecare's quality services; we have been awarded contracts with the State Department of Social Services and the Connecticut Community Care, Inc. We also work closely with the Visiting Nurses Association of Hartford, the North Central Area Agency on Aging, and the Connecticut Association of Adult Day Cares.

Founded by a protective services social worker, Juniper House Homecare is truly dedicated to helping individuals stay at home. Because we know that home is not only where the heart is, but also where our minds feel most at peace and our bodies feel most at rest.

People who come to Juniper House are looking for home care for their loved ones or clients. What we also hope to help provide is peace of mind. We want the people who select our services to feel that they are obtaining the highest quality home care available in the Greater Hartford area.

Since we were founded in 1998 to provide home- and community-based services for the residents of Greater Hartford, we have done our utmost to create an agency that puts people first. We strive to offer quality care with a smile!

Ours is a private non-profit organization that is strongly oriented toward public and social services. In order to maintain the highest levels of quality, we look to the input of our Board of Directors, a five-member advisory group that includes a physician, a businessperson, a school principal, a senior citizen, and a social worker. These people guide us in making policy and practices that translate into services that are second to none.

Our personnel is screened, insured, and bonded. Many have college degrees or are working toward them. The Juniper House Homecare has all the proper insurances, licenses, and permits. While the State and its access agencies refer many of our clients to us, we also have many "private pay" clients who are charged reasonable and fair rates that match the lowest rates allowed by the State.

We appreciate your "visit" to our Web site and your consideration of our agency for your loved one or client. Please do not hesitate to call our office at 860-523-1418 or email us at info@juniperhouse.org so that we can answer your questions and show you how Juniper House might be just what you've been looking for!
