The Hydrocrystalophone

Recently came across this lost classical instrument, a tonal cross between a flute, a theremin, and the transporter in Star Trek: The Original Series. More commonly known as the Glass (h)armonica, it has been around for hundreds of years and was incorporated by many of the great Classical and Romantic era composers and may have been improved upon by Ben Franklin. Sound is produced in the same way as when one runs a wet finger around the top of a wine glass.

Thanks for that. I shall investigate further when the engine outside has stopped and I can hear the armonica properly.

I'm pretty sure Beethoven radio has a recording of the glass armonica. I know Eric Michaels used to play it.

It should be capable of a fairly decent loudness. You can get a lot of noise from a crystal glass.
